چکیده
We report a complication of contemporary cementing technique in total hip arthroplasty, that is, extensive retrograde filling with polymethylmethacrylate cement of the nutrient artery of the femur.

In-Hospital Outcomes after Hemiarthroplasty versus Total Hip Arthroplasty for Isolated Femoral Neck Fractures
Background: Previous studies suggest total hip arthroplasty may have some benefits compared to hemi-arthroplasty for displaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures in patients more than 60 years of age. The primary research question of our study was whether in-hospital adverse events, post-operative length of stay (LOS) and mortality in patients 60 year of age or older differed between tot...
متن کاملStaphylococcus aureus Colonization in Patients Undergoing Total Hip or Knee Arthroplasty and Costeffectiveness of Decolonization Programme
Background: Periprosthetic joint infection is a devastating complication of total joint arthroplasty. It seems that thepatient’s skin, nose, throat, and urine are important sites for microbial colonization. Colonization with staphylococcusaureus, especially methicillin resistant increases the risk of periprosthetic joint infection. The aim of this study was toassess the prevalence of staphyloco...
متن کاملMigration of a Broken Steinman Pin into the Posterior Compartment of the Leg 12 Years after Total Hip Arthroplasty
This report is on a migration of a Steinman pin into the posterior com Department of the calf. It was used to fix a greater trochanteric osteotomy in a total hip arthroplasty. The puzzling note is how this metal piece passed through the anterolateral compartment of the thigh to the posterior compartment of the calf. Accord ing to our literature review, migration of fixation pins through the kne...
متن کاملPolymethylmethacrylate extrusion into the femoral nutrient vessel during arthroplasty: A phenomenon to be aware of.
Third generation cementing technique is now commonly used for total hip arthroplasty. The aim of this technique is to sufficiently pressurise the cement and allow maximal penetration of the cement into any remaining trabecular bone to provide a stable fixation of the prosthesis. We report a case where this pressurisation resulted in polymethylmethacrylate retrograde filling of the nutrient vess...
متن کاملLymphocyte response to polymethylmethacrylate in loose total hip prostheses.
We investigated the lymphocyte-mediated immune response to polymethylmethacrylate bone cement in 26 patients who had revision surgery for aseptic loosening of cemented total hip arthroplasties, at a mean time of seven years after the first replacement. We studied eight patients with cemented total hip arthroplasties which were not loose as controls. Patch tests to polymethylmethacrylate bone ce...
